What inspectors found

Abafields Residential Home provides personal care and accommodation for up to 35 older people across two floors. Following previous concerns, recent inspections show that the home has successfully addressed past issues and improved its overall standards. Residents and staff alike speak positively about the supportive environment, approachable management, and the overall quality of daily life within the home.

Residents live in a safe and secure environment where they are protected from avoidable harm. There are enough properly trained staff available to meet individual needs promptly, and medicines are managed safely and correctly. While the building is clean and infection control measures are well maintained, the interior decor is old and worn, and the provider currently lacks a formal detailed renovation plan for future updates.

Staff provide care that respects personal choices and supports residents in their best interests. Care plans and risk assessments are thorough, ensuring that people receive personalised attention while maintaining their independence as much as possible.

The home excels in tailoring its daily support to individual preferences, creating an inclusive and person-centred atmosphere. Residents are treated with kindness by staff who know them well, and people are supported to maintain social connections through local community links and activities.

The home is managed effectively with robust quality monitoring systems and regular safety audits in place. Although the manager is currently completing formal registration with the commission and leadership has improved staff morale, formal resident and relative meetings have not taken place for some time, meaning the provider needs to improve how it gathers formal feedback.
