Privacy policy
Last updated: 19 August 2026.
iCare ("we", "us") publishes a directory of care homes in England built from official public data. This policy explains what personal data we collect from visitors to icare.company, why, and what rights you have over it.
Data we collect
The site itself does not require you to create an account or log in. We collect personal data in a small number of specific situations:
- Contact and correction requests. If you email us or use a "report an error" link, we receive whatever you choose to send — typically your email address and the content of your message.
- Basic site analytics. Like most websites, we may collect aggregate, privacy-respecting usage data (pages visited, general region, device type) to understand how the site is used. This data is not used to build an advertising profile of you.
We do not currently operate user accounts, so we do not hold login credentials, payment details, or health information belonging to site visitors.
Care home data
The care home listings on this site describe organisations, not individuals — names, addresses and ratings of registered care providers, sourced from the Care Quality Commission as described in how we source our data. This is public register data about businesses, not personal data about the people who use or work in those homes.
Why we process this data
- To respond to a message you've sent us — legitimate interest in operating the site, and to take steps at your request before entering into correspondence.
- To understand and improve the site — legitimate interest, using aggregated data wherever possible.
- To meet legal obligations, where applicable.
Who we share data with
We use third-party infrastructure to run the site (hosting, email delivery) and those providers may process data on our behalf under their own data processing agreements. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with care homes or care providers without your consent.
How long we keep it
Correspondence is kept only as long as needed to resolve the matter it relates to, or as required by law, and then deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Ask us to delete data we no longer have a legal basis to hold.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe we've handled your data incorrectly.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us.
Cookies
We aim to keep cookie use to what's strictly necessary for the site to function, plus privacy-respecting analytics where used. We do not run third-party advertising trackers on care home listing pages.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if how we handle data changes, and update the date at the top when we do.
