Brooklyn House
CQC ratings by category
Inspected 19 January 2021 · report published 13 February 2021What inspectors found
Brooklyn House is a care home for up to 17 individuals. This recent inspection found that the overall service continues to be good, maintaining its previous rating. While many aspects of care were positive, the inspection identified specific areas where improvements would enhance the service further, ensuring the well-being and experience of residents are consistently of the highest standard.
On safety, the home is working towards ensuring sufficient staffing levels, particularly during peak times, and is addressing the need for more detailed risk assessments, especially concerning bed rails and choking risks, to provide clearer guidance for staff. In terms of how effective the care is, staff are well-trained and people receive good support with their health needs and daily choices, though the service needs to better identify and address the communication requirements of individuals with sensory loss. Regarding how caring the service is, residents and their families reported positive experiences, with staff consistently showing kindness, respect, and a good understanding of individual needs and preferences. On responsiveness, the home has a robust complaints system, but it is recommended that the service proactively identify and support the communication needs of residents with disabilities or sensory impairments. Finally, concerning how well-led the service is, while there is a clear management structure, the views of residents are not yet fully integrated into the quality assurance process, and the manager needs to ensure all necessary events are notified to the commission.
