This CQC report provides an overview of Carpathia Grange, a residential and nursing care home for 34 individuals over 65. The inspection focused on evaluating the service's performance across key areas, aiming to ensure residents receive high-quality care. The findings overall highlight a well-managed and caring environment, with specific areas for continued development noted to further enhance the resident experience.
Regarding safety, residents and their families felt secure, and staff were well-trained in safeguarding. Robust infection control measures were in place, and the premises were kept clean. However, some improvements are needed in medication administration record-keeping, particularly for high-risk medicines, and ensuring all staff are fully aware of medication opening dates. There were also minor issues with skin integrity checks and some outstanding fire safety works, which are being addressed.
In terms of how effective the care is, residents' needs were assessed and care plans were developed promptly. Staff received good induction and training. Food and drink were highly praised, with special attention given to specialist diets. However, some communication and care plans could benefit from more detailed information to further support staff.
The caring aspect of the service was positively highlighted, with residents and relatives expressing confidence in the staff. Dignity and privacy were consistently maintained, and residents were supported to make choices and lead fulfilling lives. Staff communicated well with residents, though improvements in specific communication plans are suggested.
In relation to being responsive, the home maintained a busy activities programme, allowing residents to choose their level of participation. Complaints and concerns were addressed effectively, and residents felt confident their issues would be handled. Staff were trained in end-of-life care, and learning from daily events was incorporated into care plans.
Finally, the service was well-led, with a clear management structure and informed staff. Relatives felt kept well-informed, and a quality assurance process was in place to drive future developments. The registered manager demonstrated awareness of their responsibilities regarding duty of candour, and positive links were maintained with health and social care professionals. Some minor points regarding medication administration documentation and staffing level calculations were noted for improvement.
