What inspectors found

Hartington House is a small care home in Bolton that provides accommodation and personal care for up to six adults with mental health conditions. At the time of this inspection, five people were living there. The home aims to create a calm, welcoming environment where residents feel genuinely supported and involved in their daily routines, backed by experienced staff and regular visits from healthcare professionals.

When it comes to safety, residents benefit from individualized risk assessments, reliable medication management, and enough staff on hand to ensure help is always nearby. The home maintains a clean and hygienic environment through regular infection control checks and safe recruitment procedures.

The care provided is effective in meeting daily nutritional needs with healthy meals while supporting residents to make their own choices. Staff receive relevant training in areas like moving, handling, and nutrition, and they work closely with local mental health teams to ensure consistent care.

Residents are treated with compassion and respect, and they consistently praise the staff for being kind and mindful of their personal space and privacy. Although care was generally personalized, inspectors noted that some wording in a few care documents was not entirely appropriate, which the management team agreed to review and update.

The home is responsive to individual preferences, arranging visits before admission to help new residents settle in smoothly. Residents enjoy a tailored programme of activities that includes shopping trips, holidays, and games, ensuring they have plenty of choice and stay socially active.

The leadership team promotes an open, inclusive culture where staff feel supported and residents are encouraged to share feedback. Management regularly conducts quality audits and engages with outside organizations and local authorities to maintain high standards and continuously improve the service.
