Inspected 8 February 2019 · report published 29 March 2019What inspectors found
Meadowview Care Home offers residential care for up to 39 individuals. This recent inspection report highlights the home's ongoing efforts to provide quality care, building on previous positive assessments. While many aspects of the home's operation are viewed favorably by inspectors and residents, there are areas identified for further development to ensure the highest standards are consistently met across all aspects of care provision.
Regarding safety, the home has robust systems for monitoring equipment, and staff are well-trained in safeguarding and infection control. Residents generally feel safe, and appropriate recruitment practices are in place. However, a fire risk assessment was not addressed promptly, leading to a breach of regulations regarding essential fire safety work, though this was rectified post-inspection. Medication management is reported as safe with competent staff and regular audits.
In terms of how effective the care is, Meadowview is praised for its dementia-friendly environment, with adaptations that promote residents' independence and well-being. Staff are well-supported with induction and training, enabling them to deliver effective care. Collaboration with external healthcare professionals is strong, and care needs are thoroughly assessed and regularly reviewed, with positive feedback received from healthcare professionals.
The caring nature of the service is a significant strength. Staff interactions are consistently described as kind and respectful, ensuring residents' dignity and privacy are maintained. The home actively promotes residents' independence and ensures access to advocacy services to support their rights.
Concerning how responsive the service is, care plans are noted for being person-centred, capturing individual preferences and dislikes. A clear complaints policy is in place, and residents are aware of how to raise concerns. The home also has a well-defined end-of-life policy and actively involves families in care planning where appropriate.
Regarding how well-led the service is, while there's a commitment from the management team and a positive impact noted from the new manager, a registered manager was not in post at the time of inspection. Better oversight is required to support comprehensive quality assurance processes. Some improvements are also recommended in how decisions are recorded for individuals lacking capacity and in ensuring the service fully considers the Equality Act 2010 in care planning. There were also noted areas for improvement in the lunchtime experience, specifically regarding personalised choices and dietary communication, though the home has since implemented changes to address these.
