Queen Elizabeth Park is a nursing home that provides care for up to 77 older people, some of whom live with physical disabilities, long-term medical conditions, and dementia. This inspection report reflects the findings from an unannounced visit in December 2017. The home has a registered manager in post and is committed to improving residents' lives through innovative approaches and person-centred care, often utilising technology and fostering strong community links.
On safety, the home effectively assesses and plans for risks, with staff responding appropriately to incidents and understanding their safeguarding roles. Robust infection control measures are in place, and people receive their medicines safely with up-to-date records and protocols. There are sufficient staff to meet resident needs, and appropriate checks ensure staff suitability. The environment is safe, with emergency plans and equipment in place.
In terms of how effective the care is, residents are supported by well-trained and competent staff who receive ongoing training and regular supervision. Clinical staff have access to professional development and support. Healthcare needs are met by nurses and through collaboration with external professionals. Residents' dietary needs are met, and staff seek consent appropriately.
Regarding caring practices, residents are supported by kind and knowledgeable staff who consistently involve them in decisions about their care. Staff promote residents' independence and treat everyone with respect, upholding their privacy and dignity.
The service is exceptionally responsive, with creative approaches to engaging residents in meaningful activities that lead to positive outcomes. Care plans are person-centred and regularly reviewed, and end-of-life care is delivered sensitively. A clear complaints policy is in place and effectively managed.
On how well-led the service is, residents benefit from strong community links. Regular checks and audits ensure the quality of care, and feedback is actively sought from residents and their families. Records are accurate and up-to-date, and important events are reported to the CQC in a timely manner.
