Inspected 2 June 2021 · report published 20 August 2021What inspectors found
Springfield Nursing and Residential Care Home provides personal and nursing support across two buildings for older adults. Following previous concerns, this recent inspection found that significant improvements had been made, successfully resolving prior regulatory breaches. Overall, residents and their families shared positive feedback about their experiences, expressing confidence in the care provided and noting that residents felt happy and well-supported in the home.
When it comes to safety, residents felt secure and protected by established safeguarding systems and regular risk assessments. However, inspectors noted a few initial areas for improvement, including incomplete employment history records in some staff files, topical creams missing opening dates, and minor cleanliness issues in a couple of bathrooms, all of which the management addressed promptly during the visit.
Care practices successfully promoted choice and independence in line with legal frameworks, ensuring residents consented to their support. While assessments and care planning were thorough, some relatives felt that communication during the initial admission stages could have been more structured.
Residents enjoyed a positive dining experience with plenty of choices, accessible snacks, and consistent support with hydration. Staff were seen regularly checking on comfort levels and adapting well to residents' nutritional needs.
Support for residents' health needs was well-coordinated alongside external agencies and healthcare professionals, ensuring timely and consistent care. Families appreciated the frequent updates and the responsive approach to overall health.
Leadership fostered an open, inclusive, and positive culture within the home. Both the registered manager and the wider staff team maintained strong, successful partnerships with external agencies and actively gathered feedback from families and residents to continually develop the service.
