While the home generally uses enough staff, including agency staff when needed, one relative noted that agency staff are "usually excellent." Medicines are managed safely, and infection control measures are robust, keeping the service clean and tidy.
In terms of how effective the care is, residents and their families feel that staff provide competent care. Staff possess the necessary skills and training, with regular supervisions and opportunities for professional development. Residents are supported to maintain a balanced diet, and staff work collaboratively with external healthcare professionals to ensure continuous support, adapting the environment as needed. Importantly, residents are supported to make choices about their lives, and staff operate within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act.
The caring approach at The New Bungalow is highly valued by residents and their relatives, who describe it as a lovely place to live. Staff demonstrate kindness and respect, building strong relationships with residents and understanding their individual emotional needs. The service actively celebrates personal milestones and fosters positive relationships amongst the staff team. Privacy and dignity are paramount, with staff always knocking before entering and respecting residents' personal information.
Regarding responsiveness, the service is noted for its person-centred approach, with care plans that reflect current and changing needs. Residents are encouraged to participate in meaningful activities they enjoy, with staff adept at understanding non-verbal cues. While there have been no formal complaints since the last inspection, there are clear processes in place should issues arise. The home also demonstrated a compassionate approach to end-of-life care and bereavement support for residents and their families.
Finally, the service is well-led, with a dedicated manager and a positive, inclusive culture. Feedback from residents, relatives, and staff consistently highlights strong leadership and a supportive team environment. The registered manager is committed to their regulatory responsibilities, and feedback from stakeholders is actively sought and used for continuous improvement. Audits are in place to monitor quality, and the service works effectively in partnership with external agencies to ensure comprehensive care.
