What inspectors found

Alexandra - Oldham is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 35 people, with 27 residents living there at the time of the inspection. Overall, the home provides a clean, safe, and supportive environment where residents are treated with kindness and respect by a knowledgeable team. While the service performs well across all key areas and benefits from active management oversight, the inspection identified a few specific areas requiring attention, such as staff training updates, minor maintenance and redecoration in corridors, and better temperature control in the medicine storage room.

When it comes to safety, the home has reliable systems for risk assessment, recruitment, and infection control, though a couple of lifting equipment pieces needed cleaning initially and one staff member lacked clarity on whistleblowing procedures.

The care provided is effective, with staff well-trained in specialist guidelines like dietary needs and regular health monitoring, although a few staff members still needed to complete their first-aid training at the time of the visit.

Residents and relatives consistently describe the staff as kind, patient, and genuinely caring, and privacy and independence are actively promoted, despite an isolated instance where a staff member used inappropriate language when discussing support.

Care is responsive to individual preferences with personalized support plans and meaningful end-of-life care arrangements, while activity provision remains somewhat limited due to many residents' health needs or preferences to stay in their rooms.

The service is well-led by an approachable registered manager who utilizes quality audits to monitor standards and maintain a positive, person-centred culture throughout the home.
