Ashbourne House in Stockport is a welcoming care home providing accommodation and personal care for older adults. At the time of our review, twenty residents lived in the home, experiencing a comfortable and homely environment supported by a dedicated team. Families and residents consistently speak of the warm, family-like atmosphere and praise the dedication of the staff and management in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging place to live.
Residents consistently reported feeling secure, noting that there are always plenty of staff around to help. Risks to health and the environment are well managed, and medicines are handled safely. However, during our review of staff recruitment files, we noted that two staff member files initially lacked photographs because the individuals did not have photo identification documents, though the manager promptly gathered alternative evidence of identity and added recent photographs by the second day of our visit.
The service delivers effective care through well-planned support and adherence to legal frameworks regarding mental capacity and consent. Staff receive regular training and maintain strong relationships with local healthcare professionals to ensure residents' medical needs are met promptly. Nutritional needs are thoroughly catered to with home-cooked meals, and the physical environment features accessible, well-maintained gardens and personalised bedrooms.
Staff treat residents with genuine empathy, kindness, and deep respect for their individuality and privacy. During an unexpected incident where a resident fell, staff responded calmly and attentively, offering comfort not only to the person in pain but also reassuring other concerned residents. Interactions observed throughout the home were natural, and residents frequently described the staff as wonderful and kind.
Care is highly responsive to individual needs, featuring detailed care plans and personalized "About me" documents that capture each person's life history and preferences. The home offers a rich variety of activities, including spa days, canal boat trips, and weekly visits from local nursery children, alongside modern technology to help residents stay connected with family. Complaints are handled through clear procedures, and residents know they can easily approach the managers with any concerns.
