Beacon House is a residential care home that provides accommodation and personal care for older people, including those living with dementia. The recent inspection highlights that residents generally feel happy, well-cared for, and safe with staff who know them personally. However, the service has experienced recent changes in management and requires improvements across several operational areas to ensure consistent quality and safety.
For the safe category, residents benefit from proper safety equipment, effective infection control measures, and regular building safety checks. At the same time, the home needed to address minor issues such as securely storing thickeners to prevent choking risks, updating certain staff recruitment history records, and ensuring care plans fully document specific individual needs like repositioning and sensor mats.
In the effective category, staff work well with external health professionals and ensure people receive their prescribed medications and tailored dietary support. However, care documentation and risk assessments required updates to match actual daily practices and national guidance.
Regarding caring, residents and their families describe the staff and the new manager as approachable, kind, and supportive. Staff demonstrate a clear understanding of individual preferences and treat people with dignity and respect.
Under responsive, the home accommodates daily visits and offers meaningful engagement through surveys, newsletters, and resident meetings. The new manager has actively created action plans to address feedback regarding laundry and daily care notes.
Finally, in the well-led category, a recently appointed manager is working passionately to bring stability after a period of leadership turnover. While internal audits and oversight processes previously missed important issues, the new manager has promptly implemented a comprehensive improvement plan, though time is still needed for these new systems to fully embed.
