Beechill Nursing Home provides nursing and personal care for up to 31 individuals with diverse needs, including physical disabilities, dementia, mental health conditions, and drug or alcohol misuse. At the time of our visit, 26 people were living at the home across two floors. Overall, the service has made positive strides, particularly in strengthening its relationships with local authorities and NHS teams through collaborative pilot projects and audits. Families and residents consistently share warm feedback about the approachable and supportive team, highlighting a welcoming atmosphere where communication is strong and residents are treated with genuine respect.
When it comes to safety, the home ensures there are enough staff on duty and maintains a clean environment with proper infection control measures. However, improvements are needed in staff recruitment processes, as the home failed to obtain or properly follow up on necessary employment references. Additionally, while safety equipment is generally well-maintained, servicing for the fire alarm and emergency lights was overdue at the time of the inspection, though promptly addressed afterward.
The care provided is effective and well-supported by regular training and proper mealtime assistance, keeping residents properly nourished and hydrated. Staff understand and respect people's rights and choices, and work closely with visiting medical professionals like the local GP. Nevertheless, the home needs to improve how it regularly reviews people's mental capacity when their circumstances change, ensuring residents are consistently supported to have maximum control over their decisions.
Residents experience compassionate, caring support where staff know their individual needs, preferences, and cultural backgrounds well. Privacy and independence are actively promoted, and people are encouraged to express their views through regular surveys and open daily communication with the management team.
The home responds effectively to individual needs through personalised care plans that are kept up to date. A newly appointed activities coordinator is actively expanding recreational options both inside the home and within the local community, helping residents stay engaged and connected.
Leadership and management have benefited from a new electronic quality assurance system and regular internal audits, helping the team address past issues effectively. While management is supportive and well-regarded by staff, ongoing focus is still required to tighten administrative procedures, particularly concerning staff recruitment records and the regular review of mental capacity assessments.
