This report details an inspection of Greenview Hall, a nursing home providing care for up to 60 older people. The inspection assessed the service across five key areas: safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness, and leadership. Overall, the findings indicate a service where residents feel safe, well-supported, and treated with dignity. The report highlights positive practices in staff training, person-centred care planning, and engagement with residents' individual needs and preferences, alongside areas for continued development to further enhance the resident experience.
On safety, residents reported feeling secure, and staff demonstrated a strong understanding of safeguarding procedures. Robust systems were in place for risk assessment, incident reporting, and environmental monitoring, with prompt action taken to address any identified concerns. Recruitment processes were thorough, and medication management was handled securely and accurately, with staff receiving appropriate training. The home also effectively maintained infection prevention and control measures to protect residents and staff.
Regarding effectiveness, residents' needs were thoroughly assessed before admission and were reflected in person-centred care plans. Staff were noted to be well-trained and experienced, with a high level of compliance in mandatory training. Residents and their families felt well-supported with their health needs, with timely referrals to healthcare professionals and good communication between the care team and external services. The home's environment was well-adapted to meet the needs of residents, including those with dementia, and the principles of the Mental Capacity Act were consistently applied.
The service was found to be caring, with staff consistently treating residents with respect and dignity. Residents described staff as kind and attentive, often going above and beyond to ensure their well-being. A relaxed and friendly atmosphere was noted, with staff, including those not directly involved in care, taking time to engage residents in meaningful conversation based on their individual histories and interests. The home also actively supported residents' cultural and religious needs.
In terms of responsiveness, residents were actively involved in decision-making about their care, with staff consistently seeking their consent and respecting their choices. The home organised a wide range of activities based on individual interests, ensuring residents did not experience social isolation and were encouraged to maintain connections with the local community. Residents enjoyed a variety of meals that catered to their individual preferences and dietary needs.
On leadership, a positive culture was evident, with staff and residents feeling valued and heard by the management team. The registered manager conducted thorough audits and reviews to ensure high standards of care were maintained. While generally well-led, the report notes that staff felt having additional staff would be beneficial, although no one reported having to wait for their care.
