Hatton Grange

Hatton Grange is a residential care home situated across three floors in Hyde, providing personal care and dementia support for up to 70 older adults. At the time of our inspection, 58 people were living at the home. Families choosing a care home often want a clear picture of daily life and safety standards, and this recent CQC report highlights both strong areas of support and a few specific points that the provider is actively addressing.

Residents generally felt secure at the home, supported by a properly vetted and sufficient staff team. Medicines were managed safely, and infection control measures were followed. However, inspectors found that certain maintenance issues needed attention, such as cleaning products and thickeners stored in unlocked cupboards, and some risk assessments required prompt updating.

The home delivered consistent care by assessing needs thoroughly prior to admission and working well with external health professionals. Staff received regular training and supervision, and dietary needs were monitored, though feedback on meals was mixed. The appointment of a new chef is expected to improve meal variety, and staff were seen assisting residents calmly during lunch.

Staff treated residents with kindness, dignity, and respect, making people feel welcome and valued. Regular meetings and a feedback board allowed residents and their families to share their views, which the management team actively listened to and acted upon.

Care plans reflected individual preferences and routines, and end-of-life wishes were properly documented. While activities were organized, residents expressed a desire for more variety and outings, a request the provider was already exploring. One relative raised concerns about how complaints were handled, though records showed management had investigated and responded to the feedback.

The management team was approachable and well-regarded by both staff and relatives. Regular surveys and internal audits helped maintain oversight and ensure the service ran smoothly, with staff showing strong knowledge of their roles even when the registered manager was away.
