This specific review was conducted by the Care Quality Commission as part of their response to COVID-19 outbreaks to closely examine infection prevention and control practices within the service.
When it comes to safety measures, visitors encountered clear audio and visual instructions upon arrival, completed screening questionnaires, underwent temperature checks via a thermal scanner, wore face masks, and performed lateral flow testing and hand sanitisation. The home successfully maintained sufficient personal protective equipment stocks, and staff were properly trained and regularly tested to prevent any potential spread of infection.
Regarding how effectively the service operates, management ensured that staff competency in hand washing and personal protective equipment usage was routinely checked, while domestic teams utilised hand-held devices to log and audit the cleaning of high-traffic areas. The home also adapted a specific wing of the building to allow newly admitted residents to safely isolate before moving into the main areas, following current admission guidance.
In terms of being caring, the service actively facilitated visits for residents in accordance with current guidance while maintaining strict screening protocols to protect everyone in the building. Staff demonstrated a strong commitment to residents' wellbeing by isolating promptly when testing positive, thereby preventing any unnecessary contact with vulnerable individuals.
For responsiveness, the facility adapted its cleaning schedules and physical layout to manage infection risks effectively, including checking the vaccination status of staff and visiting professionals in line with government rules. The home also provided clear, accessible information for visitors on arrival to ensure smooth navigation of the safety procedures.
