Holme Lea is a residential care home supporting up to 48 adults, including older individuals, younger adults, and people living with dementia, physical needs, or sensory and learning disabilities. Based on the latest inspection, residents and their families consistently share positive feedback about the daily atmosphere, the compassionate nature of the staff, and the overall quality of care and meals provided at the home.
When it comes to safety, the home generally maintains secure staffing levels and safe recruitment practices, though pre-employment checks on employment gaps need tighter oversight. However, inspectors identified medication management issues, including missing records for thickening powders, a lack of clear dosage instructions for variable medications, and missing body maps for applying creams, which led to a breach in safety regulations.
The care delivered is effective, with thorough pre-admission assessments and personalized care plans that support daily choices and independence. Staff receive regular training and supervision, and the home successfully manages nutrition by monitoring weight loss, making timely referrals to external health professionals, and incorporating helpful dementia-friendly signage and personal belongings.
Residents are treated with genuine dignity, kindness, and respect. Families frequently highlight that staff interact warmly with residents, support their privacy, and actively involve both individuals and their relatives in decision-making processes regarding daily routines and care plans.
The service responds well to individual needs and preferences through tailored care planning and accessible communication methods. While residents and families know how to raise concerns and find the management responsive, the home needs to ensure that all complaints are properly and formally logged for future learning.
Leadership and oversight require improvement. Although the management team is described as approachable and transparent, internal audits failed to catch several medication and record-keeping issues found during the inspection. Additionally, while staff feel supported, staff morale within the team is currently variable.
