Meadowside is a respite service for individuals with learning disabilities, offering temporary stays to support them and their families. This inspection report highlights significant improvements since the last review, with the service now meeting high standards across all areas. The inspectors found that Meadowside effectively supports individuals to lead fulfilling lives, encouraging community involvement and promoting independence.
Regarding safety, significant enhancements have been made, particularly in fire safety with a complete system upgrade and the fitting of new fire doors. Staff have received updated training on safeguarding and managing challenging behaviours, with clear plans in place to identify and mitigate risks. People are encouraged to take safe, positive risks, such as preparing their own drinks and doing laundry, with staff providing appropriate supervision.
In terms of effectiveness, care plans are individualised and regularly updated, reflecting each person's preferences and needs. Staff training has been significantly improved with a new oversight system, ensuring staff are equipped with the skills needed, including positive behaviour support and specific training for conditions like epilepsy. The service also ensures individuals receive appropriate nutritional support, with choices available and adaptations made for dietary needs.
The caring aspect of the service is evident in how staff engage with residents. People feel safe and well-cared for, and their privacy and dignity are consistently respected. Staff know the individuals well, and there is a focus on promoting personal independence and encouraging the development of new skills.
The service is responsive to the needs of the people it supports. Individuals are encouraged to participate in the local community and pursue their interests. Since the last inspection, improvements have been made to ensure the service is no longer in breach of regulations, and this focus on continuous improvement is ongoing.
In terms of being well-led, the registered manager has implemented robust systems to monitor staff training, manage incidents effectively, and ensure safe recruitment practices. There is a clear commitment to learning from past issues and a proactive approach to staffing, including advertising for new roles and utilising agency staff after thorough checks and induction. The environment itself has been redecorated and adapted to be more welcoming and accommodating of residents' needs.
