Inspected 23 October 2023 · report published 6 December 2023What inspectors found
Pilgrims Way Care Home with Nursing provides accommodation, personal care, and nursing support for up to 58 people with varied needs, including high-level nursing care. Based on the recent inspection, residents and relatives consistently share that people feel secure, happy, and well cared for by a compassionate team. While the home delivers strong standards across daily care, management, and clinical support, inspectors identified certain administrative and procedural areas requiring attention.
Residents consistently report feeling safe within the secure building, supported by detailed risk assessments and sufficient numbers of skilled staff. Infection control is managed effectively, and lessons are learned when issues arise. However, medicine management had shortcomings, specifically a lack of recorded skin sites for patches and injections, and the use of out-of-date blood sugar monitoring strips for diabetes care.
The home effectively assesses and meets residents' health and dietary needs, supported by regular training and supervision for staff. People have access to healthcare professionals, and the premises are clean, bright, and adapted for residents. While meals offer daily choices and cater to special diets, feedback on the food was mixed, with some residents and relatives finding it repetitive or monotonous.
Staff treat residents with visible kindness, patience, and respect, fostering warm personal relationships and a supportive rapport. Care plans are developed in partnership with individuals and their families, ensuring that personal preferences, dignity, and privacy are valued and upheld during daily interactions.
Care delivery is tailored to individual preferences, and residents are encouraged to maintain independence and make choices. While some participants take part in activities they enjoy, overall options for engagement and social stimulation can vary depending on individual mobility and daily routines.
A new registered manager has introduced quality assurance processes, and staff report feeling well-supported and approachable leadership. Nevertheless, these oversight systems are not yet fully embedded into the service culture, and staff recruitment files lacked complete employment histories and interview records at the time of the inspection.
