This report summarises an inspection of Summerwood, a care home supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism. The inspection focused on assessing the quality and safety of the care provided, examining how well the service met the needs of its residents. Regarding safety, residents generally felt secure and protected from harm, with robust safeguarding systems and well-trained staff. However, some improvements are needed in medication management, specifically regarding the detail in 'when required' prescriptions and clarity around pregnancy prevention plans. Environmental safety also requires attention, with some maintenance issues noted on stairs and in bathrooms that were addressed promptly after the inspection.

In terms of effective care delivery, the home excels at assessing residents' needs and preferences through thorough pre-admission evaluations and inclusive planning. Staff training is comprehensive, with induction and regular supervision provided, though some specific training, like infection prevention, was noted as overdue for certain staff members.

The caring aspect of the service is well-demonstrated, with staff showing passion and dedication to supporting residents. Residents feel heard and respected, and their dignity and privacy are prioritised. Relatives are actively involved and express high satisfaction with the compassionate support their loved ones receive.

Summerwood is exceptionally responsive to residents' needs, consistently ensuring their choices and independence are maximised. The home actively promotes community involvement and skill development for residents. Residents are encouraged to pursue their interests and live fulfilling lives, with staff actively supporting their individual goals and aspirations.

The service is well-led by a manager who is committed to the home's ethos of putting residents at the heart of their support. While quality monitoring systems were found to be not always sufficiently robust, the registered manager took prompt action to address issues. Staff feel well-supported and happy working at the home, contributing to a positive and effective team environment.
