What inspectors found

Tadworth Grove Care Home is a residential and nursing care facility for up to 45 individuals, offering support to elderly and frail people, including those with long-term health conditions or dementia. This recent inspection report reflects significant improvements made since the previous review. The home has introduced more activities and refined routines, such as lunchtime meal delivery, to enhance resident experience. A transition to an electronic care planning system is underway to improve record-keeping. While residents generally reported positive experiences, some feedback indicated mixed views on staffing levels, with a recommendation issued for the provider to use a recognised tool for determining appropriate staffing.

On safety, residents generally felt secure, and staff were observed to be attentive. Recruitment processes ensure only suitable staff are employed, and systems are in place to protect residents from abuse. Safety is monitored through regular reviews of care plans and risk assessments. Regarding medicines, residents reported they were administered on time and correctly, with robust record-keeping in place. The home also demonstrated strong infection prevention and control measures, ensuring visitors could engage safely and that the premises were hygienic.

In terms of how effective the care is, residents' outcomes were noted to be good. Staff receive appropriate training and support, with opportunities for professional development. The home operates in line with the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring people's choices and decision-making capacity are respected. Residents are well-supported with their nutritional needs, with choices available and attention given to dietary requirements. The home also facilitates good working relationships with external healthcare agencies, ensuring residents receive timely and consistent support.

Regarding how caring the service is, residents consistently reported that staff were kind, compassionate, and treated them with respect. They felt involved in their care and able to make their own decisions, with staff actively supporting their independence. Feedback highlighted that residents felt listened to and that their dignity was maintained. The introduction of new activities was positively received, with residents observed socialising and engaging with each other.

On how responsive the service is, people and their relatives spoke positively about the staff and management, finding them approachable and receptive to feedback. The service ensures people have maximum choice and control over their lives, supporting them in the least restrictive way possible. Residents were happy with the food provided, with ample drinks and snacks available throughout the day. The home also ensures people are supported to retain their independence and make their own decisions about their care.

Concerning how well-led the service is, while management demonstrated knowledge and commitment, there were areas for development. The registered manager actively monitors the service and addresses identified issues. Staff reported feeling valued and supported by management. However, the report notes a recommendation regarding the use of a recognised tool to determine staffing levels, reflecting a need for more robust and consistent methods for resource allocation.
