The Conifers is a residential care home for up to six individuals with learning disabilities and autistic people. This inspection report from the CQC provides an overview of the service's performance across five key areas: safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness, and leadership. Overall, the report highlights a service where residents are well-supported, respected, and actively involved in their daily lives.
In terms of safety, residents are protected from harm through staff's in-depth understanding of their needs and risks. Safeguarding measures are robust, with residents receiving clear information on abuse prevention. While recruitment processes are safe, there is a recommendation to implement a staffing tool to better monitor and ensure adequate weekend staffing levels to enhance flexibility for community visits.
Regarding effectiveness, the care provided consistently achieves good outcomes, promoting a high quality of life. Residents' needs are thoroughly assessed, and care plans are generally aligned with best practices, though there is a noted area for improvement in consistently reflecting progress towards personal goals within care plans. Staff receive appropriate training, including up-to-date mandatory courses.
The service demonstrates a strong focus on caring, with staff providing kind, compassionate, and nurturing support. Residents are treated with dignity and respect, and their individual communication needs are well understood, facilitating their involvement in decision-making. The home fosters a positive environment where residents feel happy and engaged.
In relation to responsiveness, the service effectively adapts to people's needs. The environment is homely, stimulating, and well-maintained, with residents actively involved in personalising their living spaces. The home facilitates meaningful engagement and supports residents in pursuing their interests and maintaining important relationships.
Finally, the service is well-led, with a strong management presence that prioritises residents' wishes and rights. There is a clear culture of learning and continuous improvement, with staff views and feedback actively valued. While a registered manager was in the process of being appointed during the inspection, the leadership team demonstrated a commitment to providing high-quality, person-centred care.
