Albert Residential Home is a small care home that supports three individuals with physical disabilities and mental health needs. Following a previous inspection that raised significant concerns, the provider and registered manager have worked hard to turn things around. Residents and their relatives consistently share positive feedback, describing a warm and welcoming atmosphere where people feel happy and well supported by attentive staff. The home has successfully resolved previous legal breaches, though leadership acknowledges that ongoing efforts are needed to ensure all new practices become fully established and consistently maintained over time.
When it comes to safety, residents and relatives feel secure, and individual risks—such as the risk of falls or the safe use of oxygen equipment—are properly assessed and managed. Staff are deployed in sufficient numbers day and night, and they have been safely recruited with proper background checks. Infection control measures, including effective use of PPE and cleaning schedules, are in place, and medicines are now stored and administered safely without unexplained errors. However, there were some gaps in monthly health and safety audits during the early stages of the pandemic, and fire evacuation drills need more detailed record-keeping.
The care provided is effective, with staff knowing residents very well and tailoring support to individual needs. Residents are encouraged to use mobility aids, and staff follow detailed care plans to help maintain independence and prevent accidents.
Caring relationships are clearly at the heart of the home, with residents describing the staff and registered manager as brilliant and attentive. Staff take the time to chat throughout the day and support people with individual activities, creating a genuinely homely environment.
The service is responsive to people's needs, ensuring that any incidents or accidents are properly recorded, investigated, and used as learning opportunities to prevent future issues. Communication with families has also noticeably improved, with relatives feeling well-informed about daily care.
Finally, the home is better led than it was previously, with the registered manager taking an open, receptive approach to feedback and support. A clear service improvement action plan has been completed, and staff feel well-supported and trained in their roles. Nevertheless, some paper records remain difficult to navigate, and leadership is actively working on making administrative systems and development plans more streamlined and person-centred.
