What inspectors found

Barton Lodge in New Milton provides accommodation and personal care for up to 48 people, including those living with dementia, across a two-floored building with scenic views and secure landscaped gardens. Following an earlier inspection where issues were found, the home has successfully addressed previous concerns regarding safeguarding and staffing levels. The service now operates with a stable, well-trained team under an experienced registered manager, ensuring residents receive attentive and properly managed support.

When it comes to safety, residents and their families feel secure, supported by thorough risk assessments, reliable medicine management, and proper recruitment checks. The environment is well-maintained and clean, though staff noted that the ground floor sluice room layout required immediate operational changes to minimize any cross-contamination risks with the laundry area.

Care is delivered effectively, with staff properly trained and knowledgeable about consent, mental capacity laws, and making decisions in residents' best interests. Healthcare services are contacted promptly when needed, and residents enjoy a variety of freshly prepared meals tailored to their specific dietary preferences.

Staff interactions are noted for being kind, compassionate, and respectful of residents' privacy, dignity, and independence. Friends and family members are welcomed at any time, helping residents maintain important personal relationships.

The home is responsive to individual needs through comprehensive electronic care plans and a variety of social and physical activities. Residents and their families know how to raise complaints, and while no formal grievances were noted, they remain confident that any concerns would be addressed.

Leadership is strong and visible, with a supportive registered manager who maintains good links with the community and local agencies. Record keeping and quality monitoring have improved significantly, and staff feel listened to and well-guided in their daily roles.
