Inspected 3 April 2023 · report published 11 May 2023What inspectors found
Beauchamp Court is a residential care home that provides personal care and accommodation for up to 19 older individuals, including those living with dementia. At the time of the inspection, 16 people were living in the adapted three-storey building. The report highlights a stable and dedicated care team that works well together, maintains a clean and safe environment, and fosters a warm, friendly atmosphere where residents feel genuinely valued and cared for by familiar faces.
When it comes to safety, residents felt secure and well-protected by staff, and medicines were managed properly. However, safety planning requires improvement because risk assessments did not cover all necessary areas, such as skin integrity and moving, and pressure ulcer assessments were missed.
The home excels in delivering effective support, ensuring that staff receive proper training and supervision. Residents have positive experiences with healthcare access and enjoy freshly prepared meals with plenty of choice, while staff appropriately follow legal frameworks regarding consent and mental capacity.
The caring aspect of the service is a strong point, with residents and relatives praising the staff for their kindness, respect, and gentle rapport. Residents benefit greatly from a consistent team of workers who know their personalities and preferences well.
On the responsive side, care was generally tailored to individual likes and daily needs, including engaging activities and accessible spaces. Nevertheless, care plans lacked important details regarding personal communication needs and end-of-life wishes, leaving gaps in guidance for staff.
Leadership was seen as approachable and supportive, with effective communication channels for families and staff alike. Yet, the service experienced instability in management, lacking a permanent registered manager at the time of the inspection, which highlights an area requiring ongoing oversight and stability.
