Butterfly's Care Home in Alresford provides personal care and accommodation for up to five adults with learning disabilities and autism. The service operates from a comfortable, well-maintained bungalow with single ensuite rooms and enclosed outdoor spaces. Based on our unannounced inspection, residents and their families consistently praise the dedicated staff team, describing the atmosphere as warm and family-oriented. The service maintains a stable, experienced team that knows each resident well, focusing heavily on personal choice, dignity, and active daily support.
When it comes to safety, health risks and financial management are thoroughly assessed with personalised guidance for staff, and robust recruitment checks are in place. Medicines are generally handled safely and stored properly, though one minor record-keeping omission regarding newly received stock was noted during our audit. Additionally, while staffing levels are mostly praised, some family feedback suggests that staff shortages can occasionally limit residents' participation in external community outings and activities.
Staff receive thorough inductions, ongoing training, and regular supervision to ensure they have the right skills to meet individual needs effectively. Residents are supported with balanced diets, meal preparation choices, and regular healthcare appointments, while legal frameworks regarding mental capacity are properly followed.
The caring aspect of the service shines through positive, respectful daily interactions between staff and residents who may communicate non-verbally. Staff take time to understand individual body language, protect privacy in personalised bedrooms, and actively maintain vital connections between residents and their families.
Care and support are highly responsive to individual needs, featuring detailed plans built around personal preferences, daily routines, and hobbies like college attendance or voluntary work. Regular residents' and relatives' meetings ensure feedback is heard, and clear pictorial complaints procedures are available, though no formal complaints have been made.
Leadership at the home is visible, approachable, and promotes an open, inclusive culture where staff feel fully supported and valued. Regular quality and safety audits are conducted to monitor standards, and the management team acts promptly to address any issues and drive ongoing improvements.
