This report provides an overview of the CQC inspection of Cleggsworth Care Home, conducted in October 2021. The inspection assessed the home across five key areas, focusing on safety, effectiveness of care, how caring the staff are, responsiveness to resident needs, and the overall leadership and management of the service. The aim is to give families a clear picture of the home's performance and the experiences of residents.
On safety, the home has made significant improvements to its environment following identified maintenance issues, ensuring it is a safe place for residents. Care plans and risk assessments are reflective of individual needs, and staff are kind and considerate. While safeguarding training was being addressed, concerns around infection control and food hygiene were found to be managed effectively with prompt action taken.
In terms of how effective the care is, resident needs and risks are well assessed and managed, with staff demonstrating a good understanding of individual requirements. The home supports residents to eat a balanced diet, and necessary adaptations have been made to the environment to meet needs, including for those using wheelchairs. Consent to care is obtained and respected, with staff adhering to the principles of the Mental Capacity Act. However, some staff training was noted as out of date, with efforts underway to rectify this.
Regarding caring practices, staff know the residents well and are kind and supportive. Residents feel safe and comfortable, and their preferences are actively sought and incorporated into their care. The home ensures that residents are supported to maintain a balanced diet and have access to healthcare services when needed.
For responsiveness, the home is designed and decorated to meet the needs of its residents, with personalised rooms and adapted bathrooms. The service facilitates visits for relatives in a safe manner, including a dedicated visiting pod. When residents require specialist support or advice, health and social care professionals are consulted effectively.
Finally, on being well-led, the management team is visible and approachable, fostering a culture where staff and residents feel comfortable raising concerns. The home is proactive in making improvements following external feedback, and there are regular audits in place to ensure quality. The provider engages with staff and residents through surveys and meetings to gather feedback and drive ongoing improvement.
