This report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) provides an overview of Forest Edge Care Home following an inspection in May 2023. The inspection reviewed various aspects of the service, including safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness, and leadership. The report highlights areas of improvement made by the home since the last inspection and identifies ongoing areas that require further attention to ensure the highest quality of care is consistently provided to residents. This summary aims to give families a clear understanding of the findings to aid in their decision-making process.
In terms of how safe the service is, inspectors found that while relatives felt their loved ones were safe, there were concerns about risks not always being properly assessed or managed, particularly following falls, and incidents were not always fully investigated. Regarding the effectiveness of the care provided, the service has made significant improvements, with residents' needs and preferences now being better assessed and incorporated into care plans, and mealtimes have become more social occasions. When considering how caring the staff are, residents and their relatives reported feeling safe and well-supported, with staff demonstrating kindness and understanding, and the home environment has been significantly improved through refurbishment. In terms of how responsive the service is, people are supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives, with staff acting in their best interests and in the least restrictive way possible, and the home now enables visiting according to current government guidance. Looking at how well-led the service is, while improvements have been made, governance systems need to be more robust to monitor and enhance the quality of care, and not all significant events were notified to the CQC as required.
