Guildford House Care Home has undergone its initial inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and this report reflects the findings from that assessment. The inspection focused on five key areas to evaluate the quality of care provided. Regarding safety, residents and their families reported feeling secure, with sufficient staff available to meet needs. Staff demonstrated awareness of risks and how to support residents while promoting independence, and were knowledgeable about reporting concerns. Medication management was handled safely, and residents had access to healthcare professionals. The premises and fire safety were regularly checked, with emergency plans and individual evacuation plans in place. Infection control procedures were followed diligently.
In terms of how effective the care is, residents' needs were thoroughly assessed prior to admission, and care practices align with national guidelines. Staff receive regular training and supervision, with a specific focus on dementia care. Residents are satisfied with the food choices and quality, and staff ensure adequate hydration. The home facilitates access to healthcare professionals, and care records reflect good communication with them. The physical environment is well-adapted to residents' needs, including personalised rooms and appropriate signage for the dementia floor.
On how caring the service is, residents and their families consistently described staff as kind and compassionate. People felt their dignity and respect were maintained, and they were involved as partners in their care decisions. Staff sought consent before providing support and were responsive to residents' preferences. Best interest decisions were made with the involvement of relatives and healthcare professionals when necessary.
In terms of how responsive the service is, residents confirmed they could participate in a range of activities, both group and individual, and their wishes were respected if they chose not to. Staff were mindful of preventing social isolation. Systems are in place to monitor the quality of care, and residents and their families knew how to voice complaints or provide feedback, which was reported to be listened to by the management.
Finally, regarding how well-led the service is, a positive atmosphere was noted, with residents, relatives, and staff speaking highly of the management and staff. The manager is actively involved in overseeing operations, and quality monitoring systems are in place. Staff were supported in their roles and development, and the management actively sought feedback from residents and their families.
