Inspected 13 April 2023 · report published 7 June 2023What inspectors found
This inspection report for Haydon-Mayer provides an overview of the care provided to residents. The report focuses on five key areas: safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness, and leadership. While residents feel happy and safe, the inspection identified areas requiring improvement to ensure consistent and high-quality care. The aim of this summary is to give families a clear understanding of the findings, highlighting both strengths and areas for development within the home.
Regarding safety, while staff are recruited safely and there are sufficient numbers to meet needs, care plans did not always contain detailed and accurate information for consistent support. The management of medicines required improvement, with unclear guidance for 'when required' medications posing a risk.
In terms of how effective the care is, residents are supported to have maximum choice and control, and their end-of-life wishes are discussed and recorded. However, some capacity assessments were not completed accurately, although this did not impact daily lives.
On the caring aspect, people told inspectors they felt safe and well-supported, with staff knowing their preferences. There was also effective communication regarding accessible information, and a good range of activities were offered to combat social isolation.
The service's responsiveness has improved significantly, with care plans now personalised and reflecting residents' choices and preferences. Staff are praised for knowing residents well, and timely referrals are made to GPs when needed.
Regarding how well-led the service is, while residents and their relatives feel confident raising concerns and complaints are handled appropriately, the oversight systems had not identified all the shortfalls found during the inspection. Audits were completed but did not always highlight inconsistencies in care plans or medicine management.
This is an editorial summary intended to make the inspection findings easier to read — it is not a substitute for the full report, and is not medical or care advice.
