What inspectors found

Homeleigh is a residential care home supporting up to 18 adults with mental health needs. Based on the latest inspection, the service has successfully addressed previous concerns and improved its standards. Residents and staff share a positive, open environment where individuals are encouraged to live active, independent lives while receiving personalized care and reliable support from management and staff.

For safety, the home has significantly improved its medication management, ensuring that homely remedies are GP-approved, handwritten entries are double-signed, and storage temperatures are properly monitored. Health and welfare risks, including diabetes and catheter care, are assessed with clear guidance for staff, though historical medicine tracking issues previously required corrective action.

Care is delivered effectively in line with legal frameworks, and staff work closely with healthcare professionals to meet individual needs. Residents receive tailored support to manage anxiety or distress, and their day-to-day choices and freedom are properly respected.

The atmosphere is genuinely caring, with residents expressing happiness and reporting that they feel safe. Staff respect personal preferences, support individuals in going out to local shops and social clubs, and maintain strong, reassuring relationships with residents.

The service is responsive to individual needs, actively involving residents in decisions about daily routines, infection control measures, and social activities. Residents maintain regular contact with their families and are supported to participate in community events safely.

Leadership is strong and transparent, with effective audits now in place to monitor quality and address shortfalls promptly. Although a new manager was transitioning into the role during the inspection, the leadership team maintains an open culture, supports ongoing staff development, and has clear plans for future service improvements.
