Inspected 16 March 2021 · report published 31 March 2021What inspectors found
Huntington House provides accommodation and nursing or personal care for up to 39 older individuals in a single adapted building, with 32 residents living there at the time of our unannounced inspection. Following previous concerns identified in 2016 regarding staffing levels, care plans, and management oversight, this latest inspection found that significant and successful improvements had been made across all areas, ensuring a well-run and supportive environment for residents.
Residents are protected by thorough staff recruitment checks, robust risk assessments, and sufficient staffing levels that allow team members to respond quickly and spend quality time with individuals. Safety is further supported by secure medicine management, clean and well-maintained premises, and detailed monitoring of any accidents or incidents to learn lessons for the future.
Staff follow the principles of the Mental Capacity Act to protect residents' rights, while ensuring that capacity and best-interest decisions are properly understood, although some past best-interest choices were not always formally recorded at the time. Residents benefit from well-trained, competent staff, thorough pre-admission assessments, and a varied, flexible menu that accommodates individual dietary preferences and nutritional needs.
People experience warm, compassionate care from staff who know them well, respect their dignity and independence, and maintain a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Visitors are welcomed at any time without restrictions, helping residents stay connected to their families and loved ones.
Care plans are highly personalised and detailed, guiding staff effectively on individual preferences and needs, while residents enjoy a wide range of activities tailored to their hobbies and past occupations. The service handles any complaints or concerns appropriately and ensures people know how to raise them.
There is a positive, open culture driven by a partnership between the registered manager and the provider, supported by regular quality audits and active feedback from both staff and residents. Records are securely stored, and the team continually addresses any identified shortfalls in a systematic and timely manner.
