This inspection report for Karibu Place provides an overview of the care provided at the home. It assesses the service against five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led, offering insights into the quality of care, safety measures, and overall management. The report highlights specific findings and areas for development to ensure the best possible outcomes for residents.
Regarding safety, while many aspects were assured, including infection control and the use of PPE, there were concerns about the cleanliness of some flats with visible residue, and inconsistent medication administration leading to a resident missing a required medicine for over seven days. Additionally, there was a recommendation regarding training for agency staff in physical interventions, particularly if they haven't been at the home for three months.
In terms of how effective the care is, the service consistently achieved good outcomes for residents. Staff received good training and comprehensive inductions, and care plans were detailed and personalised. The home worked effectively with external health professionals and families to ensure care met changing needs, and residents were supported to eat and drink sufficiently.
The report noted that the service was caring, with a strong emphasis on person-centred culture and promoting choice and control for residents in the least restrictive way possible. Staff felt supported, and management understood their responsibility to inform relevant agencies when issues arose and to conduct thorough investigations.
When it comes to responsiveness, the report highlights that the model of care focused on positive behaviour support, promoting independence and choice. The flats were designed to foster independence, and care documentation promoted dignity and human rights, though management sought external assistance in some areas. Residents were encouraged to engage with the community, promoting inclusivity.
Finally, concerning how well-led the service is, leadership consistently supported the delivery of quality, person-centred care. The management team prioritized residents' needs, choice, independence, and dignity. While there was an aim to ensure consistent staffing, this was not always achievable, meaning residents did not always experience care from a stable team that knew them well.
