Lambwood Heights Care Home offers accommodation and personal care for up to 73 residents, with 17 receiving care at the time of inspection. This report reflects the findings of the Care Quality Commission's first inspection of the home. The overall experience for residents and their families is very positive, with significant strengths noted across all areas of care. The home has developed strong links with the local community, and management actively seeks and responds to feedback from residents and their loved ones, ensuring a continuous improvement approach to the service provided.
In terms of safety, residents reported feeling very secure, and staff demonstrated a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and training. Robust risk assessments are in place for both residents and the environment, with clear guidance for staff to minimise harm. Recruitment practices are safe, and there are sufficient staff to meet resident needs promptly, supported by a well-organised rota system. Medication is managed safely using an electronic system, and robust infection prevention and control measures are in place, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
Regarding the effectiveness of care, residents' needs are well-assessed and met in line with current guidelines. Staff have a deep understanding of individual preferences and needs, and are well-trained and supported, with opportunities for further professional development. Residents receive nutritious meals and appropriate support for eating and drinking. The home is purpose-built with excellent facilities designed to enhance residents' lives, and staff work collaboratively with external healthcare professionals to ensure timely and effective care. While most capacity assessments were in place, some were generic and a recommendation was made for further training to ensure they are consistently decision-specific in line with the Mental Capacity Act.
The care provided at Lambwood Heights is highly regarded, with residents and families consistently describing staff as exceptionally kind and dedicated. Staff are observed to provide unhurried, attentive care, treating residents with dignity and respect, and actively engaging them in conversations about their interests and lives. Staff are committed to making the home feel like a true home for residents, fostering strong relationships and ensuring privacy and confidentiality. The service also actively supports residents in maintaining connections with friends and family.
The service truly excels in its responsiveness, offering an exceptionally personalised experience that caters to individual needs and preferences. The dedicated relationship manager plays a crucial role in supporting residents and families through the admission process and beyond, ensuring a positive and welcoming transition. Care plans are comprehensive, reflecting residents' full needs, and staff are attuned to these, even making discreet adjustments for couples to maintain their shared living arrangements. Residents and their families are actively involved in developing and reviewing care plans, ensuring they fully align with their wishes and preferences.
