What inspectors found

Lisburne Court is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 48 older people, accommodating residents across two floors with various communal and outdoor areas. Following concerns raised by the Coroner regarding risk identification and multi-agency working, an unannounced inspection was carried out to examine these risks and evaluate infection control measures. The inspection found no evidence that residents were at risk of harm from those concerns, highlighting positive practices and strong engagement across the home.

Residents and relatives felt the service was safe, noting that staff were kind, attentive, and handled medicines properly while keeping accurate accident records, though the provider was advised to update its medication policy to include a clear escalation pathway for medicine refusals.

Care was delivered effectively with respect to personal choices and nutrition, supported by staff who completed extra training and a dedicated nutrition champion, though the provider was also recommended to update its nutrition policy regarding escalation procedures when individuals decline food and fluids.

Staff demonstrated a caring approach by knowing residents well, treating them with patience, and supporting meaningful connections with visitors and loved ones in a dementia-friendly environment.

The home responded well to individual needs by assessing personal preferences before admission, involving residents and families in decision-making, and working closely with external healthcare professionals and a weekly visiting GP.

The service was managed through effective audits, transparent leadership, and strong oversight from a visible management team that promoted an open, supportive culture committed to continuous improvement.
