Maypole Care Home

Maypole Care Home is a residential and nursing care facility for up to 68 adults with physical disabilities or health conditions. This report summarises an inspection conducted in November 2022, focusing on key aspects of the home's operation.

Regarding safety, the home ensures residents are protected from harm through robust safeguarding procedures and staff awareness. Risk assessments are thorough and updated to mitigate potential dangers, and medicines are managed securely, ensuring residents receive them as prescribed. The premises are kept clean, and infection control measures are in line with current government guidelines. While staff recruitment is generally good, there was a transition period for certain checks being transferred internally.

In terms of how effective the care is, residents' needs are assessed and care plans are developed with their involvement, reflecting best practices and legal requirements. Staff receive comprehensive induction and ongoing competency training. A point for improvement noted was inconsistent fluid intake monitoring and record-keeping, though the provider acknowledged this and planned to enhance the process, with minimal impact on residents observed due to low rates of related infections.

The home's responsiveness has seen significant improvement. Residents have choice and control over their lives, supported by staff in the least restrictive way. Person-centred care plans are in place, and residents can access activities tailored to their preferences, with new activities staff enhancing provision. Information is provided in various formats to aid understanding.

In terms of leadership, the home is now well-led, with a newly appointed manager having a good understanding of the service and already implementing positive changes. While there have been management changes, staff and relatives have reported positive developments. The service is adapting its environment to better meet residents' needs, including ongoing refurbishments. The home consistently operates within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring residents' rights and choices are upheld.
