What inspectors found

This report details the findings of a recent inspection at White Rose Care, focusing on how well the service supports individuals with learning disabilities. The inspection assessed five key areas: safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness, and leadership. While the home provides a supportive environment and staff are generally compassionate and skilled, areas for development were identified, particularly in robust safety procedures and strategic planning.

On safety, the home has made efforts to safeguard residents, with staff trained to recognise and report abuse and working effectively with external agencies. However, gaps were found in staff recruitment processes, and immediate action was required to address risks from uncovered hot radiators.

In terms of how effective the care is, residents' needs are consistently well-met, with thorough assessments and skilled staff providing support tailored to individual health and wellbeing. The environment is well-maintained and adapted to residents' needs, and residents are actively involved in their meal planning and healthcare.

Regarding how caring the service is, staff demonstrate a strong understanding of individual needs, providing kind and compassionate care that respects privacy and dignity. Residents are treated with equality and diversity is promoted, with staff understanding and respecting cultural differences.

In terms of being responsive, staff are skilled in communication and understand residents' individual needs, promoting equality and diversity. However, there is a need to further develop accessible information for residents and ensure their aspirations and goals are consistently supported with a clear plan for achievement.

Regarding how well-led the service is, while staff know residents well and provide good quality care, there is a lack of robust systems for assessing the overall quality and safety of the service. Furthermore, opportunities for residents and their relatives to actively participate in the development of the service require enhancement.
