Meadow View Residential Care Home is a residential care home that provides personal care for up to 60 older people, including those living with dementia and younger adults with physical disabilities. At the time of this inspection, there were 52 residents. The home is spread across two floors with lift access, featuring a lounge and dining room on each floor, and all bedrooms have en-suite toilets. The property also boasts a well-maintained garden. This report details the findings from an unannounced inspection conducted in July 2023, focusing on the key areas of safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led care. The overall rating for the service has improved to Good since the last inspection.

Regarding safety, the service has made significant improvements, particularly in medicines management and risk assessment. Staff now have clear guidance for administering 'when needed' medications, and robust audits have minimised medication stock discrepancies. Risk assessments are more comprehensive, covering various aspects of residents' health and daily lives, ensuring support is provided safely and appropriately. Infection control measures are robust, ensuring residents and visitors are protected.

In terms of how effective the care is, residents' outcomes are consistently good. The service now has full oversight of conditions related to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), ensuring they are consistently met and lawful. Staff receive regular training and development, with specific training in moving and handling to ensure residents are supported safely. Residents and their relatives reported that staff consistently ask for consent and explain care procedures.

The care provided is noted as being very positive. Staff are described as understanding residents' needs well and protecting them from abuse. Residents and their families expressed trust in the staff, describing the environment as nurturing. There have been improvements in how the service learns from incidents, with actions and learning points shared with the team to enhance care practices. The range and frequency of activities have also improved, with a new initiative where staff dedicate time each day to spend with residents.

In terms of how responsive the service is, residents are supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives in the least restrictive way. Staff actively support residents in accessing specialist health services, and care plans reflect individual choices and preferences. The service has also seen improvements in medicines management, ensuring residents receive their medications when needed. Feedback from relatives and residents indicates satisfaction with the improvements in activities and the general atmosphere of the home.

On how well-led the service is, there have been significant positive changes driven by the manager. The culture of the service is now described as open and positive, with an approachable management team that listens to and acts on feedback. Quality assurance and monitoring systems are effective in identifying areas for improvement and driving positive changes. Residents and their relatives are regularly consulted, and their views are acted upon, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
