Reddington House is a small residential home set across three floors in Dover, providing personalized care and support for up to five adults with learning disabilities. At the time of our review, four people were living at the home, supported by a dedicated and passionate staff team. The service aims to create a warm, inclusive, and family-oriented atmosphere where residents are encouraged to express themselves, maintain their independence, and live fulfilling daily lives.
When it comes to safety, residents feel secure and well-protected by staff who fully understand safeguarding procedures and how to manage risks without restricting personal choices. Background checks are thoroughly completed during recruitment, and staffing levels consistently ensure that everyone receives prompt and individual attention. Although a temporary issue with the fire system required immediate extra safety checks and contractor call-outs during our visit, management acted quickly and decisively to keep everyone protected.
The home provides effective care through a well-trained, knowledgeable team that receives regular supervision and specialist instruction in areas like autism, dementia, and diabetes. Staff have a clear understanding of mental capacity legislation and work closely with healthcare professionals, psychiatrists, and families to support residents' dietary needs, medical appointments, and overall physical and emotional well-being.
The caring nature of the service is evident in the warm, respectful, and family-like relationships between residents and staff. Relatives and visitors consistently note the genuine kindness shown by the team, who take time to protect people's dignity, provide discreet personal support, and encourage residents to maintain their mobility and independence every day.
Responsive care is tailored to each individual through detailed, person-centered care plans that reflect personal preferences, routines, and communication styles. Residents are actively involved in choosing their own meals, daily activities, and social outings, and have access to pictorial complaints procedures so they can easily share their views or raise concerns.
The service is exceptionally well-led by a registered manager who sets a strong example of equality, mutual respect, and continuous improvement. Staff feel fully supported and valued by the management team, and regular quality audits, feedback surveys, and strong links with external health and care organizations ensure the home maintains a consistently high standard of care.
