Rowsley House is a residential care home for seven individuals with learning disabilities and autism, situated in a large, adapted house. This inspection report reflects findings from visits in November 2018, building on a previous inspection. The service continues to align with best practice principles, focusing on choice, independence, and inclusion, aiming to enable residents to live fulfilling lives.
Regarding the safety of the service, inspectors found robust systems were in place to protect residents. This included thorough recruitment processes, adequate staffing levels, proper medication management, and regular checks of the environment and equipment. Residents and their families felt that Rowsley House provided a safe living space.
In terms of how effective the care is, the service ensured that residents' needs and choices were assessed in line with current standards. Staff possessed the necessary skills and experience, supported by comprehensive training and regular supervisions. The home also operated within the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring residents’ rights were safeguarded and appropriate measures were taken when needed.
The care provided was noted as being very caring, fostering a family-like atmosphere. Staff demonstrated a deep understanding of residents' individual needs, building strong, positive relationships. Residents were well-presented and appeared comfortable and well-looked-after, with staff treating everyone with dignity and respect.
In terms of responsiveness, care plans were consistently person-centred and regularly updated to reflect individual needs. The service actively involved residents in meaningful activities and community engagement. While no complaints had been received, residents and their families felt confident in approaching staff or the manager to raise any concerns.
Concerning how well-led the service is, the registered manager demonstrated strong leadership, fostering a positive and supportive environment for both residents and staff. There were effective systems in place for monitoring service quality, and the home actively sought feedback from residents and their families through regular meetings and initiatives like coffee mornings, which were highly valued.
