Livability Treetops in Colchester provides nursing and personal care, specialized therapy, and support for up to 21 adults with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, or acquired brain injuries. The home operates on a single level and has been thoughtfully adapted to fit into the local residential area. Based on the latest inspection, the service has made strong improvements since previous visits, particularly in strengthening management oversight, medication safety, and overall governance, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for residents and their families.
Residents are well protected from avoidable harm through robust risk assessments, clean facilities, and effective infection control measures. Medicines are managed safely and stored securely, though diabetes care plans could benefit from clearer instructions on handling hypoglycemia incidents.
The service delivers effective, evidence-based care supported by a well-trained and knowledgeable staff team. Residents enjoy sociable mealtimes with appetizing food tailored to specialist dietary needs, and have access to dedicated on-site facilities including a physiotherapy room, a sensory room, and an accessible garden.
The atmosphere is warm and compassionate, with staff building strong, family-like bonds with residents. While staff excel at personalized communication and respecting choices, an isolated instance of a resident receiving feeding support in a communal area lacked privacy, which management agreed to address immediately.
Care is highly responsive to individual needs, featuring detailed support plans that track personal progress and health changes. Although care plans are generally thorough, they could be improved by including more detailed guidance regarding residents' cultural, mental health, and sexual needs, which the manager agreed to update right away.
The home is supported by a visible and motivated registered manager who fosters a strong person-centred culture. Regular audits and safety checks are actively used to drive ongoing improvements and ensure the service continues to meet the evolving needs of everyone living there.
