Inspected 31 August 2023 · report published 7 November 2023What inspectors found
The Beeches is a residential care home providing personal care and support for up to 32 adults with physical disabilities. Based on the recent inspection report, the home creates a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel safe and are supported by a consistent, caring staff team. Relatives can visit at any time, and the home maintains high standards of cleanliness with a homelike atmosphere where residents can personalize their own rooms and socialize easily.
When it comes to safety, residents feel secure and are protected by proper risk assessments, regular health and safety checks, and safe recruitment processes. However, inspectors noted that a few individual risk assessments needed updating, and a medication error had occurred the previous day which was not immediately caught by daily checks, though it was addressed promptly by management without harming anyone.
Care and daily support are delivered effectively, with thorough initial assessments and a strong focus on residents' choices, such as deciding when to shower. Staff work well with external health professionals and support balanced nutrition, although food and fluid charts did not always reflect extra snacks provided after dinner, and feedback on meal options was mixed.
The atmosphere is genuinely caring and compassionate, with staff building strong, humorous, and respectful relationships with residents. Staff actively encourage independence, helping residents achieve personal goals like regaining the ability to walk with a frame.
The service responds well to individual needs through personalized care plans, activities, and local trips, though care notes were not always recorded contemporaneously and care plans could benefit from even more detailed personalization. The home manages complaints constructively and provides dedicated end-of-life care.
Leadership is strong and transparent, with a registered manager who understands their responsibilities, conducts regular audits, and fosters an open, inclusive culture. Staff and residents have regular opportunities to share feedback through meetings, and the management team actively reviews incidents to drive continuous improvements across the home.
