Welcome to Yew Trees, a care home in Dukinfield that provides personal care and support for up to 43 people, mainly individuals living with dementia who have complex needs. At the time of our inspection, 41 people were living at the home. Families described the staff as brilliant and kind, noting that the team knows residents well and takes time to chat and build positive relationships. While the home demonstrates strong standards across all areas, there are some specific points to keep in mind, such as the need for redecoration in certain areas and the heavy workload placed on kitchen staff who cater across two services.
Residents felt safe, and risks were properly assessed and managed with the help of appropriate equipment like alarms and sensors. Medicines were securely stored and safely managed, and the home maintained high standards of cleanliness and infection control. Recruitment checks were thoroughly completed, and although some agency staff were used, a consistent core team provided reliable continuity of care.
Care was effective, featuring well-assessed needs and detailed support plans, particularly around eating and drinking with appetizing meals and regular snacks provided. Staff completed ongoing relevant training, felt well supported by management, and worked smoothly with external healthcare services when outside advice was needed. The building was clean, tidy, and free of clutter, though some parts of the home would benefit from a program of updating and redecoration.
Staff were consistently described as kind, caring, and respectful, knowing residents well and responding quickly to any signs of distress or discomfort. Families felt actively involved in decision-making and were confident that staff genuinely listened to their views. Privacy and independence were actively promoted, with staff using discrete support and encouraging residents to take part in daily tasks.
The service responded well to individual needs, offering personalized care plans and regular reviews alongside a variety of group and individual activities led by an activity worker. Communication needs were met in line with standards, and complaints were investigated and addressed promptly with full confidence from families. End-of-life care plans were also in place to reflect personal preferences.
The home was well-led by a clear management team with robust quality audits and checks overseeing safety, infection control, and care records. Staff understood their roles, worked well together, and participated in regular team meetings to share updates and learn from incidents. Management engaged openly with families, residents, and external healthcare partners to continuously improve the service.
