What inspectors found

Welcome to our summary of the latest Care Quality Commission inspection for The Pines, a small and intimate care home located in Weybridge that provides personal care for up to ten adults. This targeted inspection specifically evaluated how well the home manages infection prevention and control, particularly in response to the coronavirus pandemic. During the visit, inspectors looked closely at daily routines, safety measures, and overall hygiene practices to understand how the staff protects the health and well-being of everyone living and working in the environment.

When examining how the home protects people from harm and infection, inspectors found that the facility remained completely free of COVID-19 throughout the pandemic. The management and staff achieved this by introducing proper building zoning to encourage social distancing, maintaining plentiful personal protective equipment supplies through regular stock checks, and ensuring rigorous cleaning schedules that included sanitising high-touch areas like banisters three times a day.

Regarding the effectiveness of the daily routines and support, staff actively promoted residents' health by encouraging nutritious diets and providing additional vitamin supplements such as Vitamin D tablets to help keep immune systems strong.

On the aspect of personal and compassionate support, the home successfully balanced safety with emotional well-being by carefully arranging family visits in line with government guidelines, providing visitors with clear pathways to a sanitised meeting area, and supplying necessary protective equipment.

In terms of how the home responds to changing circumstances and guidance, the management followed up-to-date procedures for safely admitting new residents and participated fully in regular testing programmes for both staff and those living in the home.

For leadership and management oversight, the provider maintained fully current infection prevention and control policies, kept accurate records of testing, and successfully implemented all necessary safety measures to manage and prevent potential outbreaks.
