Walton Park Care Home has undergone a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which reviewed the overall quality of care and support provided to residents. The report highlights positive changes and improvements made by the home, particularly following previous feedback. The inspection focused on five key areas: safety, effectiveness, caring approach, responsiveness, and leadership. This summary aims to provide families with an overview of the CQC's findings to assist in their decision-making process.
On safety, the home has made significant progress, with residents and their families expressing that the environment feels secure. Staff are recruited safely, with sufficient numbers to meet resident needs, and the consistency of the care team has improved. Residents are well-supported with their medicines, individual risks are managed, and infection control measures are in place and effective.
In terms of how effective the care is, residents are receiving good outcomes that promote a good quality of life. Staff have received enhanced training and support, addressing previous concerns. The home is now operating in line with the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring residents' decisions are supported and their best interests are paramount.
Regarding the caring aspect, residents and their families consistently described the staff as compassionate, respectful, and attentive to their needs. Staff feel supported by the management team, and the home collaborates effectively with external healthcare professionals.
Concerning how responsive the service is, residents are supported to maintain independence and control over their lives, with care provided in the least restrictive way possible. The home environment is undergoing refurbishment to enhance comfort and accessibility, and efforts are being made to improve activities and social events for residents.
Finally, on how well-led the service is, while governance and oversight processes have improved, they are not yet fully embedded and effective. There have been multiple changes in the management team, and the home manager was in the process of registration at the time of inspection. Some audits were not yet fully effective in promptly identifying issues, and certain care records required further updating.
