This report provides an overview of the recent inspection of Woodside View, a care home providing nursing care for up to 26 individuals. The inspection focused on how effectively the home managed infection prevention and control measures, particularly in light of current guidelines. It also explored any staffing pressures and their impact on the service provided. The findings highlight the home's commitment to safeguarding residents and staff.

Regarding the safe delivery of care, Woodside View diligently followed current government guidelines for COVID-19, implementing comprehensive visitor checks to minimise infection risks. Staff received consistent training on infection prevention and control, including the proper use of personal protective equipment, with training frequency increased during the pandemic. Individual COVID-19 risk assessments were in place for residents and regularly reviewed to address vulnerabilities.

In terms of effective care practices, the home's approach to infection control was robust. Staff were well-trained in preventing and managing infections, and cleaning routines for frequently touched surfaces were enhanced throughout the day. Hand sanitiser was readily accessible, and the home ensured safe admission of new residents.

The caring aspect of the service is demonstrated through the proactive approach to resident well-being. The home ensured that residents' individual COVID-19 risk assessments were up-to-date, contributing to their overall safety and comfort.

In terms of responsiveness, Woodside View facilitated visits for residents in line with current guidance, ensuring connections with loved ones were maintained safely. The home also ensured that all necessary staff and visiting professionals were vaccinated against COVID-19 unless exempt or in an emergency.

Looking at how well-led the service is, the management had measures in place to mitigate risks associated with COVID-19 related staff pressures. The home was assured to be meeting shielding and social distancing rules, and effectively using PPE. Access to testing for residents and staff was also ensured.
