Abberton Manor Nursing Home
CQC ratings by category
Inspected 18 January 2021 · report published 5 February 2021What inspectors found
Abberton Manor Nursing Home provides accommodation and nursing care for up to 26 people, including individuals living with dementia, and was home to 19 residents during the inspection. A new management team has recently taken charge and is actively implementing improvements across the service. Residents and their relatives generally describe the atmosphere as warm and homely, praising the dedication of the staff and the overall quality of daily life.
The environment is generally safe and well-monitored, with proper risk assessments and secure medicine management in place. However, the inspection noted that initial checks on environmental risks, such as stairwell access and room security, were inconsistent and required immediate follow-up by management.
Care practices effectively support residents' daily choices and dietary preferences, with staff demonstrating a strong understanding of legal consent guidelines. On the downside, some care plans lacked crucial details regarding oral health and diabetes management, and certain legal detention authorizations required better tracking and administrative updates.
Residents consistently experience compassionate, respectful interactions with a kind-hearted staff team who build strong personal relationships. Families are actively involved in sharing their views and contributing to the care planning process, ensuring individual preferences are acknowledged and respected.
The home offers a wide variety of indoor and community-based activities designed to keep residents engaged and connected to the local area. While complaints systems are accessible and responsive, staff noted that working with agency personnel can occasionally be stressful.
The home is supported by a management team keen on driving positive changes and establishing stronger community links. Nonetheless, further work is still needed to fully embed the new governance systems and ensure that specialized communication and medical training remain fully up to date for all nursing staff.
