What inspectors found
This report details an inspection of Bamford Grange Care Home. Inspectors assessed the home across five key areas to understand the quality of care provided. The inspection focused on identifying improvements made since the last review and areas where further attention is needed to ensure residents receive the best possible support and experience. The findings cover the safety, effectiveness, caring approach, responsiveness, and leadership of the home's operations.
On safety, inspectors found that improvements had been made in medicine management, with secure storage and appropriate record-keeping, though some administrative details require further attention. Staff are recruited safely, and adequate staffing levels were observed, with individuals' risks assessed and managed. While environmental safety checks are in place, there's a recommendation for more secure storage of potentially hazardous substances.
Regarding effectiveness, the care provided consistently achieved good outcomes, with residents' needs assessed and care plans reflecting their preferences. Staff receive good training, although some supervisions and appraisals were noted as being behind schedule due to managerial changes. Feedback on food quality was mixed, and nutritional charts were not always fully completed.
In terms of how caring the service is, staff were consistently described as kind, patient, and respectful. Residents felt well-supported, involved in decisions about their care, and their privacy and dignity were upheld. Positive relationships between staff and residents were evident.
On responsiveness, communication needs were met, and new activity coordinators are in place, which is a positive development for residents' engagement. Visits were facilitated, with arrangements made for isolation periods, and residents’ communication needs were adequately addressed.
In the area of leadership, the service was not always well-led, partly due to recent changes in management and a period without a registered manager. While staff were supported, improvements are needed in ensuring consistent oversight and administrative accuracy across all areas, including medicine records and nutritional charting.
