Cherryfield House is a residential care home that currently supports 27 adults living with dementia and physical disabilities. During the recent inspection, residents and their relatives shared that they feel secure and well-looked-after by a stable and approachable staff team. The home environment appears clean and is actively undergoing a refurbishment programme to improve aesthetics and hygiene. While the overall findings reflect a caring and well-managed community, inspectors did note a few minor administrative areas requiring prompt attention.
When it comes to safety, residents feel protected, and regular health checks are maintained throughout the building. However, inspectors found that one staff member lacked a reference from their most recent health and social care employer, and medication records initially lacked precise details regarding the amount of thickener administered.
Care is delivered effectively by a thoroughly trained and well-supported staff team who understand current standards and legal frameworks around decision-making. Residents enjoy flexible mealtimes with diverse food choices and receive timely support from visiting healthcare professionals, including a weekly GP visit.
Staff are consistently caring, treating individuals with respect, humor, and deep familiarity with their personal preferences. They actively encourage residents to maintain their independence, whether through preparing their own meals or regaining everyday skills after temporary health setbacks.
The service is highly responsive to individual needs, offering personalized care plans and a rich variety of activities ranging from quizzes to local outings and cultural theme nights. Complaints are addressed promptly on the same day they arise, and residents receive compassionate, well-planned end-of-life support.
Leadership has improved noticeably, fostering an open, positive, and inclusive culture where both staff and relatives feel heard and valued. The registered manager is actively engaged in continuous learning and uses regular audits to drive ongoing improvements across the home.
