Bonhomie is a newly registered care home supporting a small number of adults with mental ill health, substance misuse history, and physical disabilities, serving as a bridge between crisis care and independent living. During this first inspection, residents were receiving high-quality, personalized support in a well-equipped, calm environment. However, the management recognized that internal monitoring and governance systems need further development to maintain these standards as the home grows.
Residents felt safe and were protected from abuse by knowledgeable staff who managed risks while encouraging personal independence and positive risk-taking. Medicines were handled safely, and the team proactively changed weekend staffing rotas after reviewing incidents to ensure continuous on-site management cover.
Care was effectively tailored to individual needs through thorough assessments and close collaboration with external healthcare professionals and specialist substance misuse teams. Staff were recruited safely, valued for their personal qualities, and completed comprehensive inductions and tailored training. Residents lived in purpose-built, apartment-style rooms promoting independent living and were supported to maintain balanced diets and access healthcare.
The atmosphere was warm, friendly, and respectful, with staff demonstrating a deep understanding of residents' personal backgrounds, cultural needs, and human rights. Residents built strong, positive rapports with the team and were treated with genuine kindness, dignity, and compassion.
Support was highly responsive to individual choices, goals, and daily routines, with staff successfully balancing personal privacy with safety requirements. Care records accurately reflected people's views, and residents were actively involved as partners in planning their daily activities and recovery milestones.
Leadership ensured the service operated within legal frameworks such as the Mental Capacity Act, but oversight requires strengthening. The management team acknowledged that governance and monitoring systems must be further developed and strengthened to ensure consistent standards as the service continues to expand.
